Week 8: Rounding up Development

Hey guys, Adam here again, bringing you this week's update on Magefest's production.

This week, everyone took the time to continue what they've been working on so far. As we're reaching the end of development at this point, it is unlikely that there will be as many huge improvements or changes made to the game.

Ryan managed to finalize keyboard controls this week, leaving the game in essentially its finalized state in terms of gameplay systems. The core gameplay loop has essentially been completely finished at this point, leaving only bug-fixing and inserting things like art, sound and animations into the game at this point.

Connor has been working on several smaller visual additions to the game, such as finalizing particle systems and adding camera wobble to the explosion ability; granting it a bit more force behind it.
As well as that, he has also been working on finalizing the death, stock and respawn systems. They are all shown off in the following video.

Josh has mostly been beginning the process of bug-fixing this week, with many issues we've been having over the course of the game's development now being fixed. Magefest also now has a working menu system, allowing players to select a map to fight one another on thanks to him. Josh has also integrated Connor's font into the game's menus.

Jess has begun work on the animations for Bob, with movement and jumping being mostly done at this point. Hopefully next week I should have some video available to show you of said animations in play.

Christina has completed the intro animation for the Magefest logo which I will share below.

She has also finalized the sound effect selection for the game, and has begun the process of integrating and correctly hooking up each sound to their respective trigger. Finally, Christina has begun the process of filming for a trailer for the game, consisting of both in game footage, as well as footage of the group working on the game. The trailer is set to release just before the game is to be shown at Perth Games Festival, so look forwards to it.

I have been continuing work on marketing material this week, mostly preparing for the three pieces we will actually be taking to the Games Festival: an A2 poster, illustrated by our art lead Connor; a series of replica tickets, which will be given out to the winners of each playtest on the day of the event; and finally a set of stickers to be given out to all playtesters.

Overall, the amount that can actually be shown in these posts has been steadily decreasing over the course of development, as we come to a close. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be interviewing the remaining members of the group to get their insight into the game development process. Hopefully I should have more to show off in the coming weeks, so look forward to it.

Thank you so much for reading!
